From all across the realm, downtrodden webmasters would travel to pay homage to the ones called Editors, that those keepers of the Categories might bequeath a link of great PageRank upon them.
Jun 12, 2018 · Just type "DMOZ" in search bar :p. Just two examples : Some SEO tools like Woorank consider it a mistake to be not listed in DMOZ. If you look for expired domains at expireddomains.net, you can pick the option "listed in DMOZ" among other options like domain authority, page rank etc. Important = yes. Essential = no.

Because DMOZ uses a network of volunteer editors to review every site submitted to their directory, Google and other search engines trust DMOZ and look upon sites listed by DMOZ with great respect which boosts the ability for any listed site to rank on the various search engines.
It was important a decade ago, but DMOZ is basically a joke now. Doesn't hurt to submit it, but it could sit in a queue for years, and you'll never know whether it is just ignored or turned down.

Over the years I have never been able to get listed on DMOZ because whenever I submit a site, I get a 'service temporarily unavailable' type message. I thought this time I would check every day, and I have done for 3 weeks now. I still get unavailable. I have also tried different places to submit, some completely different but always the same ...
