As a first step in this process, Orion dismissed more than 80 Filmways employees from their jobs and brought in 40 of their own people, including 15 executives. In June 1982 Filmways announced that its name would become Orion Pictures Corporation and that the company had been 'quasi-reorganized' to put it on a sound financial footing.

Filmways, Inc. was later reincorporated as "Orion Pictures Corporation" in June of that same year. Currently most of the Filmways film library is owned by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer with Orion retaining the copyright.
