Jun 26, 2024 · Ann Steely (1923-1970), later known as Cathy O'Donnell, was an Alabama-born motion picture and television actress best known for playing Catherine "Keechie" Mobley in the 1948 American crime film They Live by Night, in which she and actor Farley Granger portrayed an outlaw couple on the run.
Though she performed in numerous films that featured top talent both behind and in front of the camera, actress Cathy O'Donnell is best remembered for her first major part, in the Academy Award-winning post-World War II drama, "The Best Years of Our Lives."
In 1951, Cathy had a small but worthwhile role in DETECTIVE STORY, directed by William Wyler, and the lead in an inconsequential film called NEVER TRUST A GAMBLER. After other small roles, most notably in Anthony Mann's THE MAN FROM LARAMIE (1955) with Jimmy Stewart, Cathy made her final big screen appearance for Wyler in his 1959 epic BEN-HUR.
