Sep 10, 2012 · Vera Cruz was the second of the half-dozen Westerns Aldrich made, three of them in collaboration with Burt Lancaster. (They also worked together on the non-Western Twilight’s Last Gleaming.) The film was photographed by Ernest Laszlo, who made six Aldrich films before finally winning an Oscar, a decade later, for Stanley Kramer’s Ship of Fools.
Vera Cruz was the first release in SuperScope (beautifully shot by Ernest Laszlo on location in Mexico) and with director Robert Aldrich at the helm, the film brilliantly captures the violence and danger that was brought about during Mexico's revolutionary period.

Vera Cruz was the first film to be released in the SuperScope widescreen process. HR news items add Noemi Ruben, Fernando Wagner and Lucilla Gonzalez to the cast, but their appearance in the final film has not been confirmed.
