Dec 31, 2014 · The film's opening credits were animated with a cartoon version of the film's main character, Inspector Clouseau, who chased after the elusive Pink Panther. In the movie the name was given to a rar diamon, but DePatie-Freleng (the designers of the title sequence) showed a literal representation of the Pink Panther as a large, pink cat.

The film also featured the sixth Panther appearances of Clouseau's manservant Cato and Sgt. François Chevalier (André Maranne). Cato, Dreyfus, and François all debuted in A Shot in the Dark (1964). This is the last The Pink Panther film to feature the character Inspector Jacques Clouseau in the original The Pink Panther film series.
At the end of the film, Dreyfus weds Clouseau's former lover Maria Gambrelli (Jacques Gambrelli's mother) but is shocked to learn that Clouseau and Maria conceived twins: Jacques and Jacqueline Gambrelli. In the 2006 reboot The Pink Panther, Dreyfus (again as Chief Inspector) uses Clouseau as a decoy while he himself attempts to solve the crimes.
The film was directed by Shawn Levy, stars Steve Martin as Clouseau and also co-stars Kevin Kline, Jean Reno, Emily Mortimer, and Beyoncé Knowles . In the scene where Clouseau is being chased through the cemetery after falling in the plot and disrupting the funeral, you can see a sign on a cross in the lower right part of the screen for a few seconds. The sign reads "Reposite En Pace: Norman LEAR, 1903-1962".
