Great Kills Park. Great Kills Park is a 523 acre park located on the south shore of Staten Island. This site was created by Robert Moses and operated by New York City Department of Parks and Recreation between 1947 and 1972. Great Kills Park became part of the National Park Service in 1972 when Gateway National Recreation Area was established.
The Great Kills Branch of The New York Public Library is located on Giffords Lane at the corner of Margaret Street, two short blocks from the Staten Island Rapid Transit station.This busy branch provides materials in a variety of formats and services to all age levels. It became part of the park in 1972 when New York City transferred the land to the National Park Service. Unlike the Fort Wadsworth and Miller Field sections, Great Kills Park has no military history and is for recreational purposes only.
