The way I’ve been taught is 6 continents: North America, South America, Antarctica, Eurasia, Africa, Australia. And 7 “world parts”: North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania. And sometimes even central America, but that leaves North America with only two countries, which doesn’t feel right.
If you went to school in the UK, the US, or other English-speaking countries after 1960, you were probably taught that there are 7 continents. But if you went to school in many other European, African, Asian nations, or the rest of the Americas, you may have learned that there are 6 or 5 continents. The purists count just 4 continents.
