For the route that usually takes me about 2.5 hours drive, it defaults to the route (to the same place) that takes about 4 hours drive. I haven't had these issues with my last iPhone. I have the latest and greatest(?) software version (15.3) and "Avoid Highway and Tolls" option is DISABLED ...
I google map it. 28 year old, I still say mapquest it when I mean use google/apple maps. It comes from the time when I had to print mapquest directions and play navigator for my parents when they were the only direction website around. No one uses it bozo. I have never heard anyone here say that.
