Join Midpen staff for a fun workday removing invasive French Broom at Monte Bello Open Space Preserve. Staff will provide training on plant identification, removal techniques, and information about why we want to remove this plant from our local landscape. This project is an excellent opportunity for first-time volunteers!
Wildflowers. In the spring this preserve explodes with color as the native wildflowers – primarily poppies and lupine – put on a showy display. By May and June, gumweed, mules ears, farewell-to-spring, and brodiaea bloom. Stay on established trails. All areas in Russian Ridge Preserve are closed to off-trail use during wildflower season.

Monte Bello Open Space Preserve Stevens Creek Nature Trail (3-mile loop): The Stevens Creek Nature Trail, with self-guided interpretive stations along the way, descends into the forested canyon, continues along the creek, and heads back up through grasslands. The trail takes visitors through many of the diverse ecosystems found on the Preserve.
