For polish, I pick up random gel colors from eBay. Sometmes I use sensationail polish to gel product and mix a gel color from a regular polish. My current polish has been on three weeks, there's one small chip where I chipped the nail. (The regrowth isn't showing too much because the polish is light. I'm redoing them today, though.)
The base and top coat set is great, and I can get full nail coverage with the glitter polish in 2 coats without a color coat underneath. Madam Glam, The Gel Bottle, IBD, Color Club Gel. I agree. I love Gelish, but it's too rich for my blood! 🤑. I like Red Carpet Manicure, which is Ulta's brand.
Essie Check your baggage is my favorite mainstream yellow for nail art but it’s really more of a marigold color. I use a lot of mid-dark Essie colors and they work great. Essie Mooning is one of my favorite utility polishes, I use it for so much. If you’re looking for specialty finishes, indies 100%.

Like others have said, different brands/formulas work best for different people. And a good base coat + top coat combo will make a huge difference it how long your polish lasts. For me, Essie smooth-e base and Glisten & Glow top coat work best - my manicures went from lasting a few days to 1-2 weeks without chips.
