There are legit QOL improvements (like being able to maneuver the boat while aiming your harpoon), but also too many moments of frustration. The OG is absolutely better. The remake feels stretched thin and watered down a bit, looser and less meaningful. The original RE4 is my favorite game (or at least tied with DMC3 and a few others) of all time.

A lot of it is nostalgia. When you ask anyone what their favorite movie/song/game is, it’s often what they experienced during adolescence. Often like 12-14 when you’re usually going through a lot of changes. Whatever you took in at that time, often, has a bigger impact on you.

The original DOTD does show its low budget nature at times especially in the zombie make up department but it's still better to me. As a straight out horror film, the Evil Dead remake is probably better than number 1 but you can't really compare it with 2 due to the difference in tone. Texas Chainsaw however.
