Great shrine in the middle of Fukuoka. A beautiful old shrine built in 757 with lots to see. Gorgeous Gingko trees, the crane fountain, the amazing float used during the Hakata Gion Yamakasa festival which is rebuilt every year and on display here. The detail & colours are incredible. A 1000 year old Gingko tree is also situated here.
Jan 13, 2012 · Kushida Shrine is the end point for the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival, an annual 5k race during which men from each of Hakata's districts compete for fastest time and best float in the heat of July. Outside the main shrine towers one of these traditional floats, intensely colored and full of characters such as horsemen and priestesses.
