Victor Kugler escapes during an air raid. In late March 1945, Victor Kugler was sent to Germany on foot with about 600 fellow prisoners. Near Zevenaar, the column came under fire from British aircraft. Kugler took advantage of the confusion and escaped. After a few days, he arrived home in Hilversum. Event. After the people in hiding and helpers Johannes Kleiman and Victor Kugler were arrested on 4 August 1944, they were taken to the Zentralstelle on Adama van Scheltemaplein for interrogation. From there, Kleiman and Kugler were transferred to Detention Centre II on Amstelveenscheweg (Havenstraat 6) on the same day. [1]
Victor Kugler served in the Austrian navy during World War I. Subject. Victor Kugler was conscripted into the Austrian Navy in the Adriatic at the age of 17. In April 1918, he was wounded and discharged with a pension. [1] There are two photos of Kugler in sailor uniform, taken in Gladbeck. His cap reads K.u.K. Kriegsmarine. [2]
The four helpers have worked at Opekta for some time: Miep Gies and Victor Kugler since 1933 and Bep Voskuijl since 1937.
