The team first appears in Detective Comics #64 in 1942, co-created by Joe Simon and Kirby, the same creatives behind Captain America, one of the first members of the Avengers .

Jack Kirby passed away on February 6, 1994, leaving behind a legion of fans and ideas, and a creative legacy not likely to ever be matched in the comics field. As is obvious, it has not been within the scope of this book to encompass all of Kirby’s creations and his many facets.
