In 1901, survivors of the two organizations, by now reunited, dedicated a memorial to her on the shores of Fire Island where she had died. Erected in 1901 through the efforts of Julia Ward Howe. The Margaret Fuller Memorial overlooked the section of ocean where the Elizabeth sank on 19 July, 1850. The memorial was washed away by a storm in 1913.
