Henry Hathaway's Garden of Evil doesn't feel like a Western at times, even with Western stalwarts Gary Cooper and Richard Widmark in the leading roles. Maybe it was the Mexico setting, and not the dry and dusty Mexico we'd normally see in 1950's Westerns, but a vibrant, almost exotic side of Mexico that shows the wilderness in all its vastness.

During the harrowing journey, the party's already frayed nerves are aggravated when the men become attracted to Hayward. The group arrives at the mine's location--the Garden of Evil, so named because the Indians regard it as the domain of evil spirits.
