Anna was the third of ten children born to her parents. She was sister to three saints: Kinga, Margaret and Blessed Jolenta. Other siblings included Stephen V of Hungary and Elizabeth of Hungary, Duchess of Bavaria. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew II of Hungary and Gertrude of Merania, sister to Agnes of Merania.
Margaret was a daughter of the Duke Louis IX "the Rich" of Bavaria-Landshut (1417–1479) from his marriage to Amalia of Saxony (1436–1501), daughter of Elector Frederick II of Saxony. She married in 1474, with an elaborate celebration in Amberg (the "Amberg Wedding") Philip, who later became Elector Palatine Philip the Upright (1448–1508).
Her parents were Rostislav Mikhailovich, future ruler of Belgrade and Slavonia, and his wife Anna of Hungary. After the death of her father's father, Kunigunda's family relocated to Hungary, where her mother's father, Béla IV of Hungary , made her father governor of certain Serbian-speaking regions in the Danube Valley.
