Beginning with The Fortune Cookie (1966), hitting their stride with the seminal The Odd Couple (1968), and continuing with the underrated The Front Page (1974) and Buddy, Buddy (1981), Lemmon and Matthau established themselves as one of the premier comedy teams in film history.

Grumpy Old Men, on the other hand, is such a film, and while it won't come close to my top 10 best list for 1993, it will be right up there among the pictures that I had the most fun watching. John Gustafson (Jack Lemmon) and Max Goldman (Walter Matthau) have been neighbors since they were kids, and the feud between them has lasted almost as long.

About this good, Grumpy Old Men is entertaining for it's leads who obviously have a history in making films with one another and with each other. The first half is all laughs and the second is the resonating message hidden behind the big brick wall. Good watch. Burgess Meredith was my favorite part of the whole movie.
