The lake is 3,800 acres with a clean swimming area, restrooms, a playground, three fishing piers, a fish cleaning house, and free boat launch ramps. Murvaul Lake is 15 miles southwest of Carthage on Murvaul Creek in the Sabine River basin in Panola County (at 32°02′ N, 94°25′ W). Construction of the reservoir began on September 26, 1956 and was completed on June 1, 1958.
