The Church Santa Maria del Mar (Santa Maria of the Sea) is a 14th-century Gothic basilica, located not far from the sea in the district of La Ribera, El Born, and was built by sailors who wanted to compete with Barcelona Cathedral despite their limited resources. Its sobriety makes it one of the most beautiful examples of Catalan Gothic.
Oct 13, 2023 · The Santa Maria del Mar is open every day from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 8:30 pm. From 10:30 am to 5:30 pm you must buy tickets to get access. From 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm admission is free, with the exception of the towers/roof terrace.
Santa Maria del Mar is a hidden gem in Barcelona. Despite not being the Cathedral or, of course, the Sagrada Familia, it's a very beautiful church with tons of history, a very good example of Catalan Gothic style. The guided tour - in catalan, spanish or english - is very worth its price.

Attend a mass at the Santa María del Mar church. It is also possible to attend the daily mass at the Santa María del Mar. It starts at 7.30 pm. On Sundays and holidays there is an international mass at 12 am and for Christmas you can also attend a night mass, on December 24th starting at 11 pm.

The church took 55 years to build and is a rare example of pure Catalan Gothic architecture (most churches and cathedrals are a combination of styles).
