She was a Frank (from France). Augustine hoped she would welcome him. He was right. Augustine spoke to the King about the Bible. He persuaded Aethelbert to become a Christian.

His task was to Christianize King Ethelbert and his kingdom of Kent from Anglo Saxon Paganism. In the short time he was in England (597- 604 AD) he laid the foundations for the Church of England.
