The capital of the Thua Thien Hue Province and a revered symbol of Vietnam’s past, Hue was treated almost as a free city by both the South Vietnamese government and the Communist Viet Cong guerillas. Other than an occasional mortar shell or a rocket lobbed into the city by Viet Cong, Hue was largely spared the ravages of war.

Apr 3, 2017 · Take A Boat Ride on the Perfume River. The Perfume River is a central feature of Hue. Our tour included a morning trip on the river in a dragon junk. The ornate boat was clean enough and the operator very friendly. We left the port near the main section of Hue. We traveled down river before turning to travel upriver to a 17th century pagoda.
