Antonio Salieri (18 August 1750 – 7 May 1825) was an Italian composer and teacher of the classical period. He was born in Legnago , south of Verona , in the Republic of Venice , and spent his adult life and career as a subject of the Habsburg monarchy .

Antonio Salieri (August 18, 1750 – May 7, 1825), born in Legnago, Italy, was a composer and conductor. As the Austrian imperial kapellmeister from 1788 to 1824, he was one of the most important and famous musicians of his time.
He was the leading opera composer in late 18 th century Vienna; he triumphed in Italian opera buffa, opera seria, and in French tragédie lyrique. He served as court composer, director of Italian opera, and later Kapellmeister to Maria Theresa, Joseph II, Leopold II, and Francis II.
