Discussion. Obviously not a Ghibli movie, but certainly one of the most "Ghibli-adjacent" movies ever made. Finally watched this after putting it off forever. When Marnie Was There is my favorite Ghibli movie but I always heard Mary and the Witch's Flower, the follow-up from Marnie director Hiromasa Yonebayashi, wasn't great.

Although it's not a Ghibli movie, it reall looked like one, though it really lacked the main aspects of a Ghibli movie, such as depth, a cast of unique characters, a good storyline, etc. It looked like it borrowed things from various Ghibli films too: The magic school in the sky reminded me of Harry Potter and Castle in The Sky, Young Aunt ...

May 2, 2024 · The 2D animation in “Mary and the Witch’s Flower” (Meari to majo no hana) is beautiful, colorful, bright and engaging from start to finish. It’s a lot better than the choppy, plastic-like 3D animation in the 2020 Ghibli film “Earwig and the Witch”.
