Despite being less than 50 km (31 miles) from the Greenland ice sheet, Greenland does not have permafrost except at the ice margin. So, while it does receive a fair amount of rainfall, it is not considered a particularly wet destination.

However, in August 2021, rain fell on the summit of the ice cap in Greenland, allowing University of Montana glaciologist Joel Harper to collect data.

Still, the vast majority of things happen as planned, but not always. We hope this advice does not scare anyone.

If the clouds come out or the rare rain shower falls, you’ll be chilled to your core. You’ll definitely want to pack plenty of thin layers.

15 hours ago · The Arctic Circle. Day 1 – Fly into Kangerlussuaq, just north of the Arctic Circle, either direct or via Nuuk. Day 2 – Take a drive across the tundra to the ice sheet, spotting reindeer and musk oxen en route. Walk on the ice sheet using crampons and walking poles and, for the full experience, camp on the ice overnight.
