  1. May 18, 2024 · No ancient woodland survived in the 20th century. Until then Girton was devoted mainly to arable farming, formerly on a triennial rotation. Its open fields were inclosed in 1808. Girton College, one of the first two colleges established for women at Cambridge, was installed in buildings in the south by the main road in 1873.
