Constructed in the early 18th century as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736), the Belvedere is actually two grand Baroque palaces – the Upper and Lower Belvedere – surrounded by sprawling formal gardens.

He immediately started to build a nice park and with time nice buildings were constructed at both sides of the park. Today we know these buildings as the Upper and the lower Belvedere.
