May 13, 2024 · In 1967 the first of the Soviet Union’s 8,000-ton Yankee-class submarines were delivered, which carried 16 SS-N-6 missiles of 1,300-nautical-mile (2,400-km) range. These were followed a decade later by Delta-class vessels fitted with 16 SS-N-18 missiles. Each SS-N-18 had a range of 3,500 nautical miles (6,500 km).
