Maybe it's just the gothenburg sound, but Lunar Strain is the first album I've listened to that comes close to scratching the early Opeth itch. I totally do. Well, rather I think it sounds close to Orchid but not Morningrise.
In perfectly mixed and mastered albums you can tell where each instrument is in the sound stage, if you have the gear to replicate the "holographic" effect. I have noticed that the vocals of Hope Leaves are at the very front of the sound stage. It's like he's singing right in front of me.

I always thought Blackwater Park sounded like a really dark, cold Scandinavian winter deep into some evil forest. It also sounds like depression to me. Listening to Morningrise makes we feel like I'm walking through a park in Bath, England. I discovered Opeth during a canadian winter :D many months without sunlight.
