   Why is West End called West End?

   • The name 'West End' is believed to have been taken from the area of London by the same name, because, according to Brian Randall from the State Library of Queensland, it was seen in earlier times as a fashionable place for the houses of the wealthy. The Aboriginal name for the area is 'Kurilpa', which means 'place of water rats.'
