Those people are doing what makes them happy, and that's a good thing, but it's not what emo was or is as a genre of music. It's something else altogether. Emo was never about wearing a uniform of any kind. It wasn't about being sad. It has nothing to do with anime or autotune.
Just do whatever job you do to the best of your ability. Ideally avoid face tattoos, piercings, etc. if you're intending on working in customer service, for example, though otherwise your employer couldn't care less about what you do in your free time; you could wear a dress and frolic around your garden naked for all they care.
