   What happened to Louis Braille?

   • The system was not formally adopted by the Institute until 1854, two years after Louis died of tuberculosis. Louis Braille passed away of tuberculosis in 1852. He was initially laid to rest in his home village of Coupvray. However, in 1952 he was re-buried at the Panthéon in Paris, an honour bestowed on many of France’s national heroes.
