Oct 22, 2019 · Today Birkenkopf in Stuttgart is surrounded by forests and trails for walking and biking, and much of the rubble has been slowly covered up by greener pastures. There are still a lot of remnants that can be seen and the top of the hill has quite a few large slabs of stone piled up.
At 511 metres, the Birkenkopf is the highest point in the inner city (almost 300 metres higher than the Neckar!) and offers a fantastic view over Stuttgart. On a clear day you can also see the Strohgäu, the Black Forest, the Wartberg near Heilbronn, the Neckar valley, the Swabian Forest and the Swabian Alb. Share.
This 511 meter hill to the west of Stuttgart is known locally as “Rubble Mountain” for its summit that is covered with wreckage of buildings destroyed during the air raids of WWII. A spiraling paved incline leads to the top of the hill, where runners will be rewarded with incredible views of the city for their hill work.
