52 Pick-Up is a 1986 American neo-noir crime film directed by John Frankenheimer and starring Roy Scheider, Ann-Margret, and Vanity. It is based on Elmore Leonard's 1974 novel of the same name, and is the second adaptation of it after The Ambassador (1984).
John Frankenheimer's "52 Pick-Up" provides us with the best, most reprehensible villain of the year and uses his vile charm as the starting point for a surprisingly good film. The villain's name is Raimy, and he is played by John Glover as a charming blackmailer with the looks of an aging British juvenile and a conscience with parts on order.
A secret fling between a man and his mistress leads to blackmail and murder. Successful Los Angeles construction magnate Harry Mitchell (Roy Scheider) has his life turned upside down when three hooded blackmailers come to him with a tape of Harry and his mistress, a stripper named Cini (Kelly Preston). They demand $105,000 per year for the tape.
