5 days ago · Expert Response. It's hard to tell for certain from the images, but it looks like one of the threadleaf forms of Ironweed ( Vernonia ). It could be the cultivar 'Iron Butterfly' of Vernonia lettermannii. This species of Ironweed is not locally native, but instead wild to a very small area around Oklahoma and Arkansas.

You will often see cute bee butts wiggling while they go headfirst into the blooms. There are 250+ species of penstemon native to North America and quite a few cultivars.
How does ironweed take to being dug up and transplanted? I’d like to take part of the stand to get it established in two more spots where it has a better chance of setting seed before it gets mowed. Has anyone had experience with dividing up ironweed or have any tips? Central TX if that matters, I can’t figure out how to edit flair on mobile.
