Lier (Dutch pronunciation: ⓘ; French: Lierre, French pronunciation: ⓘ) is a municipality located in the Belgian province of Antwerp. It is composed of the city of Lier proper and the village of Koningshooikt. The city centre is surrounded by the river Nete, around which it grew. In 2018, Lier had a total population of 35,712.

Lier, commune, Flanders Region, northern Belgium, located at the junction of the Great and Little Nete rivers, southeast of Antwerp. Probably settled in the 8th century, it developed around the Chapel of St. Peter (1225) on the site of an earlier wooden chapel.
Lier is a hidden Belgian gem, a small historic town known for its beautiful medieval architecture, especially the Grote Markt main square. Located in the heart of Flanders mid-way between Antwerp and Mechelen, 20 minutes from each, and 40 minutes from Brussels, it could be an easy day-trip, or perhaps spend the night.
