Sumner Lake State Park is a state park in De Baca County, New Mexico, United States, located on the eastern plains about 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Fort Sumner. The park features a large 4,500-acre (18 km 2) reservoir on the Pecos River, created in 1939 by the Sumner Dam of the United States Bureau of Reclamation.
There are trails and paths and inlets and lagoons all around the lake opposite the dam, so you can spend a few hours, a day or a few days at the lake and not get bored. The Lake has fishing, boating, and you can canoe and kayak as well as swim, and the area is really worth exploring.

Tons of pelicans and turkey vultures kept us entertained. The camp sites in our loop were spacious. We were surprised to find working showers in the bathrooms.
