Theodor Heuss (German: [ˈteːodoːɐ̯ ˈhɔʏs] ⓘ; 31 January 1884 – 12 December 1963) was a German liberal politician who served as the first president of West Germany from 1949 to 1959.
Theodor Heuss was a liberal democratic legislator, the first president of West Germany, author, and leader of the Free Democratic Party (Freie Demokratische Partei, FDP). He also helped draft a new constitution for postwar West Germany.

Dezember 1963 in Stuttgart) war ein deutscher Journalist, Publizist, Politikwissenschaftler und, über einen Zeitraum von fast 60 Jahren, liberaler Politiker ( NSV, FVg, FVP, DDP, FDP / DVP ). Nach Gründung der FDP 1948 war er für knapp ein Jahr deren Vorsitzender.
Theodor Heuss, born in 1884 in Brackenheim, studied economics and history of art in Munich and Berlin and obtained a doctoral degree. He started working in journalism as a student and later made it his career.
Heuss worked as a liberal journalist before the First World War and as an academic after it. He had denounced Hitler, but, like all the other non-socialist members of parliament, capitulated to him in the decisive moment.

Heuss wurde der erste Bundesvorsitzende der FDP. Als Mitglied des Parlamentarischen Rats hatte er großen Anteil an der Formulierung des Grundgesetzes. 1949 wurde Heuss zum ersten Bundespräsidenten der Bundesrepublik Deutschland gewählt und bezog 1950 die Villa Hammerschmidt als Amtssitz.
