Horatio Greenough was one of the first American sculptors to receive international recognition for his talents as an artist and is perhaps best remembered for his colossal statue of George Washington. Completed in 1841, Horatio Greenough sculpted Washington to resemble one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the statue of Olympian Zeus.
