However, the “maggot” refers to negative thoughts that cling to our minds and eat away at our self-worth. The song is a metaphoric representation of conquering those demons, moving beyond them, and finding oneself in the process.
May 15, 2024 · Hazel was 17 when he wrote the song, which is an instrumental by the American band Funkadelic. The original recording is over 10 minutes long and features a spoken introduction and an extended guitar solo by Hazel. (taken from Wikipedia). The story of this composition is interesting as well.
