In the desert near Tonopah, Nevada, Howard Hughes (Jason Robarts) rides his motorcycle and crashes. At night, Melvin Dummar (Paul Le Mat), a magnesium plant worker, stops by the side of the highway to urinate. There, he sees Howard huddled and shivering on the ground.
One day in the early 1970s, Nevada milkman Melvin Dummar picks up an unkempt, bearded stranger, gives him a ride into town and a quarter. The chronically cash-strapped Dummar later discovers that the man he picked up was the eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, who has died and left him $150...

Sep 19, 1980 · During one of the multitude of financial crises endured by the Dummars, Melvin discovers that the tramp he picked up was none other than billionaire Howard Hughes -- and when Hughes dies, Melvin inherits $150 million.
Melvin is a nice guy, but he is a total loser: unlucky, impractical and can’t keep a job. One night, however, he helps an old man who has had a motorcycle accident in the desert. Melvin laughs when the old man says he is Howard Hughes.
