Ray Cooper is a British session percussionist whose recording career started in the 1960s, recording with the WHO, among others, and is still going. Among his early jobs were America, Carly Simon, David Essex, Blue Mink and especially Elton John (he played on most of his '70s albums).

A true Renaissance man, Cooper studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London (where he has been a Fellow since 2003), and spent his early working years as an orchestral percussionist under the baton of some of the most significant conductors of the day, including Sir John Barbirolli and Carlo Maria Giulini.
Continually modified to this day, Cooper's percussion set offers a large array of percussion instruments for sonic diversity such as the tambourine, congas, crash cymbals, cowbells, rototoms, tubular bells, the gong, snare drum and timpani.
Sep 19, 2018 · Ray has played on 97 of Elton’s songs, appearing on 12 of his studio albums (most recently, Wonderful Crazy Night) and three live albums. His percussion credits include tambourine, congas, castanets, vibes, watergong, kettle drums, maracas, shaker, triangle, finger cymbals, and many other instruments.
