6 days ago · Today is the 52nd anniversary of the Simla Agreement. The bilateral agreement was signed on 2 July, 1972, by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Pakistan’s Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. It came in the aftermath of the 1971 War in which Pakistan was defeated and the independent nation of Bangladesh was formed.
The agreement, which sets out guidelines on durable peace and normalisation of relations between India and Pakistan, will be made public simultaneously in Shimla and Islamabad.
