May 22, 2024 · Originally intending to supply home nursing for the dying, they opened St. Joseph's hospice in 1905; hospice was one of first of its kind, although preceded by Anglican hostel in Clapham and by St. Luke's hosp., which settled finally in Bayswater.
4 days ago · The Elizabeth Fry refuge for women ex-prisoners opened in 1849 on the site of the later St. Joseph's hospice and moved in the 1860s to no. 195 Mare Street, which it left for Highbury in 1913; the institution amalgamated with Dalston Refuge in 1924.
