When Marnie Was There is my favorite Ghibli movie but I always heard Mary and the Witch's Flower, the follow-up from Marnie director Hiromasa Yonebayashi, wasn't great. Now that I've seen it...it's fun and the animation's as gorgeous as ever, but it feels pretty slight.

Anyone who watched Mary and The Witch's Flower? I felt it was ok in terms of the story and characters-i liked its Ghibli-esque animation style and the music. Although it's not a Ghibli movie, it reall looked like one, though it really lacked the main aspects of a Ghibli movie, such as depth, a cast of unique characters, a good storyline, etc.
May 16, 2024 · Mary and the Witch's Flower is the first film from Studio Ponoc, a studio established by Yoshiaki Nishimura, the former lead producer of Studio Ghibli. So, if you've already seen all the Ghibli films, this is a good next stop.
