Émile Édouard Charles Antoine Zola ( / ˈzoʊlə /, [1] [2] also US: / zoʊˈlɑː /, [3] [4] French: [emil zɔla]; 2 April 1840 – 29 September 1902) [5] was a French novelist, journalist, playwright, the best-known practitioner of the literary school of naturalism, and an important contributor to the development of theatrical naturalism. Zola is a 2020 American black comedy crime film directed by Janicza Bravo and co-written by Bravo and Jeremy O. Harris. It is based on a viral Twitter thread from 2015 by A'Ziah "Zola" King and the resulting Rolling Stone article "Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind the Greatest Stripper Saga Ever Tweeted" by David Kushner.
