Segment 1209 of the Navasota River begins below Lake Limestone and flows until it connects with the Brazos River southwest of the town of Navasota. The watershed drains portions of Brazos, Grimes, Leon, Limestone, Madison, and Robertson counties in east-central Texas.

Created by the Texas Legislature in 1929 specifically for the purpose of developing and managing the water resources of an entire river basin, the Brazos River Authority develops and distributes water supplies, provides water and wastewater treatment, monitors water quality, and pursues water conservation through public education programs.
Geography. Navasota is located in southwestern Grimes County, east of the Navasota River (a tributary of the Brazos River ). It is 71 miles (114 km) northwest of Houston. Texas State Highway 105 is the main east–west route that passes through the center of Navasota, leading southwest 25 miles (40 km) to Brenham and east 41 miles (66 km) to Conroe.

May 7, 2024 · More recently, there have been concerns raised by stakeholders that flooding in the lower portion of the Navasota River basin has increased in recent decades, with many suggesting that the dam upstream at Lake Limestone could be linked to these changes (Falls, 2021; Krauss, 2021 ).
