Thomas Richard Carver (born 1960) is a writer and former BBC foreign correspondent . Early life. Carver was born in Hereford in 1960. His grandfather, Oswald Carver, was an Olympic oarsman who rowed in the 1908 Summer Olympics in London. He was killed during the Battle of Gallipoli in 1916 aged 28.
