In episode 4, “The Twin Thing,” when Luke is searching for Joey after she steals his money and runs off, he is unbearably cold and at this point, we know that Nell is dead. I interpreted his coldness as him feeling what Nell is feeling—she was put into the freezer once her body was found to preserve it.
