Schuster received his B.A. in economics from Tulane University in 1973 and his J.D.from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1976. He also graduated from the National Judicial College in 2002.
Schuster worked as a private practice attorney, as well as an assistant district attorney for the Cobb Judicial Circuit. Before his election to the Superior Court in 2004, he was a judge of the Cobb County Juvenile Court.
